Primary function is the processing of crime scenes and managing collected physical evidence of the department. Officers receive special training in processing crime scenes, fingerprint analysis, photographing techniques, blood stain patterns, DNA collection, and proper evidence handling.
Crime Scene Investigators usually makes some sort of initial interpretation of the evidence at hand and documents the actions taken by the investigators at the scene. Effective documentation allows for an accurate re-creation of the crime scene by a third party, such as a Forensic Scientist.
